At the end of the winding road
Spring is in the air
I don't know how it is with you. But as soon as autumn is here, I always like to think back to spring. Autumn is beautiful with its colourful leaves and the fresh, cool air in the morning. But spring has something magical about it. It’s the moment nature wakes up from its winter sleep. The days get longer and brighter again. The daylight changes colour. Last spring, I visited a great place in my search for the most beautiful daylight…
This time I’m going right up high. My destination is at the end of a bright metalled road that winds up the mountain. A cool wind greets me when I get up there, bringing with it the signs of spring: gentle birdsong and the scent of waking greenery.
As soon as I enter through the tall glass door, I'm surrounded by the smell of freshly cut wood. I am lost for words and have to take another deep breath. The tension in my shoulders from the car journey relaxes immediately. When I open my eyes again, I notice structured wall surfaces. Warm, indirect lighting elegantly picks out glass bottles of different colours. Groups of high leather armchairs invite you to arrive and relax. Cool and warm, light and dark earthy tones radiate an agreeable calm. Soft cushions in shades of magenta and purple add a playful touch.
For all the stylish emphases at Hotel Schloss Landau, my attention is always drawn back to the middle of the lobby. To the middle and upwards. Because despite the dark colours, the lobby is as bright as day. A round skylight floods the open space with daylight. To get to the reception, each guest has to immerse into a large circular pool of daylight. Barstools invite you to have a refreshing drink at the counter.
It's early March and the weather is as crazy as if it were April. But occasional rays of sunlight keep struggling through a sky covered with scudding clouds. And they fight their way through the round skylight into the lobby of Hotel Schloss Landau in Bad Arolsen. Where they put a smile on the lips of the guests and the busy hotel staff.
