The new childcare center in Waltenhofen masterfully combines modern architecture with the warmth of wood as the primary building material, embracing a sustainable and environmentally conscious approach. The room layout is deliberately tailored to the needs of young children: clear structures, bright colours, and a calming atmosphere support orientation and a sense of security. At the same time, the design avoids overstimulation, providing children with space for creativity and exploration.

Natural Daylight: A Key Element for Child Development

A core focus of the project was the integration of natural daylight. Studies have shown that daylight plays a crucial role in child development—it enhances concentration, boosts well-being, and supports overall health. In the Kinderkrippe Waltenhofen, these benefits were deliberately incorporated into the design, ensuring an environment that promotes learning, security, and emotional stability for the children.

Daylight at the Heart of the Building

In interior spaces such as the spacious entrance hall, bringing in natural light would be a challenge without architectural intervention. Skylights provide the ideal solution. The LAMILUX Glass Skylight FE 3° systems were installed to provide optimal lighting while complementing the architectural character of the building. These high-quality daylight solutions create a bright and inviting atmosphere, making the entrance hall a vibrant and welcoming central gathering space for children.

A Perfect Balance of Comfort, Safety, and Sustainability

Beyond their aesthetic appeal, the LAMILUX glass skylights serve multiple essential functions. They offer natural ventilation, provide excellent thermal insulation, and contribute to the energy efficiency of the building. The design is further enhanced with integrated smoke and heat extraction systems, ensuring fire safety in emergencies. As a result, the Kinderkrippe Waltenhofen is more than just a safe and inspiring space for children—it is a sustainable, functional, and future-oriented childcare facility where children can play, learn, and grow with confidence.
