Heidelberger Druckmaschinen –
Refurbishment with strip lighting

Continuous Rooflights for more light and safety

As part of extensive renovation measures, the roof of the production hall at Heidelberger Druckmaschinen in Wiesloch was fitted with Continuous Rooflights with a total length of 4.2 kilometers.

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG is a leading global supplier for the printing and media industry. With its ‘Simply Smart’ philosophy, the company combines people, machines and processes to ensure maximum efficiency and quality. To achieve this, however, new solutions are constantly needed that keep pace with the times. This includes modern and intelligent building components, such as the Continuous Rooflights from LAMILUX. These were chosen during the building refurbishment thanks to their durable materials and high quality - simply smart.

Optimum energy efficiency thanks to continuous rooflights

A central component of the renovation is the installation of LAMILUX Continuous Rooflights with a total length of 4.2 kilometers, which ensure optimum use of daylight. These significantly improve the incidence of light in the hall compared to the old, partially yellowed Continuous Rooflights. The increased daylight incidence leads to a reduction in energy costs for artificial lighting and at the same time improves the working environment by providing more brightness and a more pleasant atmosphere. The refurbishment therefore optimises the working environment and energy efficiency.

Integrated fire protection on the roof

The Continuous Rooflights also support the implementation of the existing fire protection concept by integrating smoke and heat extraction flaps. Together with an intelligent building control system, around 450 vents are responsible for extracting smoke from the hall in the event of a fire. If the system is triggered by a fire alarm or excessive temperatures, the flaps open automatically and allow the heat and smoke to rise upwards. This maintains a low-smoke layer on the floor, which facilitates the escape route and saves lives.

Refurbishment strengthens working atmosphere

In the long term, the refurbishment will not only reduce operating costs, but also improve the working environment. The increased daylight and reduced heat impact will promote a more pleasant working environment and contribute to achieving the company's climate targets. The refurbishment reflects a trend towards an increased focus on ecological and economic efficiency, particularly in times of economic uncertainty and extreme weather conditions. Refurbishments increase property value and make buildings fit for the future.
