Sustainability and Innovation in Harmony

The Norderney Harbor Terminal focuses on sustainable architecture: LAMILUX Glass Skylights with an aluminium frame reduce energy consumption by naturally illuminating indoor spaces during the day while providing effective thermal insulation. At the same time, they emphasize the modern appearance of the building.

Hafendüne Terminal – A Fusion of Modern Design and Maritime Symbolism

The Hafendüne Terminal on Norderney combines modern design with maritime symbolism. The futuristic roof structure, inspired by a sand dune, blends harmoniously into the harbor landscape and accommodates up to 1,200 passengers. With a spacious arrival hall and functional administrative spaces, a long-awaited meeting point has been created that makes waiting times more pleasant and appeals to both island residents and visitors alike.

Harmonious Light Distribution for Function and Aesthetics

The challenge was to integrate daylight systems into the unique architecture, highlighting the maritime style while bringing daylight into the arrival hall. The roof construction now features 16 LAMILUX Glass Skylights with a diameter of 100cm and 5 larger skylights with a diameter of 180cm. This variety of sizes ensures even light distribution and enhances the modern design of the building. The natural brightness not only improves well-being but also boosts efficiency in workspaces.

Durable Materials for Coastal Conditions

The harsh coastal environment, characterized by salty air, strong winds, and high humidity, places high demands on construction materials. The Hafendüne Terminal is therefore built with robust and durable materials specifically designed for these extreme conditions. LAMILUX Glass Skylights and the GRP (glass fiber-reinforced plastic) upstands provide outstanding thermal insulation and light transmission, while also offering excellent corrosion resistance and stability—ideal for a sustainable building in this challenging environment.
