A Unique Architectural Monument

The St. Paul’s Church Traunreut, a listed masterpiece of modern church architecture, was built in the 1950s based on the designs of Otto Werz and Emil Ottow. It is considered the oldest historic monument in the young city of Traunreut, which was founded as a settlement for displaced persons after World War II.The church impresses with its trapezoid layout, asymmetrically sloping gable roof, and striking light guidance. In addition to its use by the Evangelical community, it is also regularly visited by Romanian and Greek Orthodox congregations. However, despite its timeless aesthetics, the Pauluskirche had not escaped the signs of time.

A Challenging Renovation in Historic Preservation

The architecture of the Pauluskirche is defined by intentional light guidance – high-placed windows direct the gaze toward the altar and the sky. Over the years, however, the skylights above the altar had suffered significant damage. Yellowed and leaky domes prevented natural light from entering, negatively impacting both the aesthetics and the energy efficiency of the church. Due to the historic preservation status, the renovation had to be carried out with extreme care. Additionally, the special dimensions of 119 cm x 323 cm presented a challenge that required custom solutions.

Custom Solutions with LAMILUX Glass Skylights FE

To restore both the original charm and functionality of the St. Paul’s Church, the decision was made to install eight LAMILUX Glass Skylights FE. These products are particularly suitable for use in listed buildings, as they are individually adapted to the specific requirements of a structure through German craftsmanship. Their construction is characterized by the most modern technologies, such as a seamless isothermal transition, warm-edge spacers, and a 3° inclination, which prevents the accumulation of water and dirt.

More Light, More Efficiency, More Safety

The new skylights now allow daylight to generously stream into the church again, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere around the altar. In addition to the visual enhancement, the glass skylights also contribute to energy efficiency. Thanks to their high-quality insulation and construction, heat remains inside, significantly reducing the church's energy consumption. At the same time, the renovation significantly minimized the risk of moisture damage to the roof, which saves costs in the long term and increases the building’s safety.
