Tradition meets modernity

Selb is known worldwide for its long tradition of porcelain production. The former production halls of the Heinrich porcelain factory, where the finest porcelain was once manufactured, have been given a new lease of life as the Selb Outlet Centre as part of an extensive refurbishment project. The conversion of the historic kiln hall began in 2018. Today, the department stores' houses numerous brand shops and invites visitors to stroll and browse.

Design meets functionality

The shopping centre is covered by an impressive LAMILUX Glass Roof PR60 with a surface pitch of 25°. This construction not only contributes to the architectural elegance, which gives the Selb outlet centre a modern and inviting appearance, but also optimises the natural lighting of the interior. Daylight can thus be distributed evenly, which is not only pleasant for visitors, but also reduces energy consumption. The double solar control insulating glass used plays a decisive role here: it protects the interior from overheating due to direct sunlight without impairing light transmission. This creates a pleasant indoor climate, even on warm days.

Integrated smoke and heat extraction system

The LAMILUX Glass Roof PR60 is also equipped with an integrated smoke and heat extraction system (SHEVS). This is particularly important in a department store, as it ensures the safety of visitors in the event of an emergency, such as a fire. The SHEV system enables smoke and heat to be quickly extracted from the inside of the building, keeping escape routes clear.

Importance of daylight in the Selb outlet centre

However, natural daylight plays an important role in the shopping experience. The LAMILUX Glass Roof PR60 creates a bright, inviting environment that has a positive effect on the mood of visitors. Studies show that people linger longer and feel more comfortable in rooms flooded with light - an effect that has a positive impact on purchasing behaviour and thus demonstrably supports the retail trade. The natural light also makes it easier to find your way around the building and creates a relaxed atmosphere that turns shopping into an experience.

In addition, 1,500 new car parking spaces are being created to offer visitors even more convenience. The extension of the department stores' sends out a strong signal for the region and shows how historical heritage and modern architecture can go hand in hand - with the LAMILUX Glass Roof PR60 as the central element.
